In response to a community survey where residents list investments in parks and greenways as one of their top three Town priorities over the next few years, Holly Springs is moving forward with a Parks Bond Referendum that will go before voters this November. The $100 million bond will fund the first park west of NC 55 across from Holly Springs High School on Cass Holt Road. The park is expected to contain a multigenerational indoor recreation center.
Proposed amenities in the indoor facility include:
- Four court gymnasium for basketball, pickleball, volleyball and more
- Indoor adventure track with training features like hills, ramps or stairs
- Esports and technology lounge
- Indoor playground
- Café with unique seating areas
- Fitness equipment and group exercise space
- Meeting rooms for programs and community rentals
Outdoor amenities in the 56-acre park could feature:
- Interactive splash pad
- All wheels skatepark
- Lighted pickleball and basketball courts
- Lighted turf fields
- Paved looped trails and greenways
“As the west side of Holly Springs continues to grow, the goal is to provide greater access to recreational amenities for all Holly Springs families,” said Holly Springs Parks and Recreation Director LeeAnn Plumer. “The community has asked for this park to be a place where young children can play, teens can find activities and our seniors can be active - all in one location.”
Additional projects being considered with the proposed bond include:
- Womble Park enhancements with new lighted outdoor basketball courts and a replacement of the dugouts at the baseball fields
- A new Sugg Farm Program Pavilion with restrooms
- Cultural Center Theatre seat replacement
- Boosting greenway segment connections by using funding to leverage grant opportunities
At its April 18 meeting, the Town Council approved a resolution to begin formally initiating the steps for a November 2023 Parks Bond Referendum. More bond project information will be released to the public, along with opportunities to speak at public hearings, over the next few months.
