State Grant to Fund New Accessible Amenities at Sugg Farm

Sugg Farm Accessibility Grant

The Town of Holly Springs recently was selected to receive a $500,000 state grant to add new recreational amenities at Sugg Farm to meet the unique needs of children and veterans with physical and developmental disabilities.

The Town sought the state grant because part of the Town Council’s strategic plan focuses on engaging communities that are traditionally underserved.

“We are thrilled to be awarded the grant and are looking forward to adding new amenities for all our residents to enjoy,” said Holly Springs Parks & Recreation Director LeeAnn Plumer.

Funded projects include:

Nature Play Area: An accessible play area of mountains, slides, sand pits, water features, caves, labyrinths, and other natural features that help children experience play, imagination, and exploration in nature.

Community Garden: In addition to a community plot rental opportunity, the garden will allow individuals and families to increase their physical activity and overall health through hands-on planting, weeding, watering, and harvesting. Gardening is a proven therapy tool.

Accessible Trail: The trail will allow children of all abilities to explore unique sensory experiences in a natural, outdoor setting.

The funding will be awarded to the Town from the N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation Trust Fund - Accessibility for Parks grant program. Click here for more information about Sugg Farm.
