Garbage and recycling collection will change Aug. 2 for about half of Holly Springs customers as routes are being re-balanced to increase efficiency and save customers money.

The Town’s service provider, GFL Environmental, will notify those whose collection day is changing. Yard waste collection will remain the same for everyone.

The Town Council was briefed on the schedule changes at its June 22 meeting.

The changes have enabled the Town to lower the garbage and recycling fee by 48 cents per month beginning in July. The Town has been adding approximately 600 customers a year and now has more than 13,200.

Also at its June 22 meeting, the Town Council received an update on Development Services lobby renovation in Town Hall. Construction begins in July and is scheduled to be completed this fall.

The Development Services lobby is getting a makeover to improve the customer experience and maximize office space. New development software to make the permitting process digital is set to go live June 28.

A customer service and compliance representative will be available at the Finance Department front desk to assist customers with permitting questions.

On other matters at its June 22 meeting, the Council:

  • Voted to move forward with its $10,000 annual membership to the Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce while continuing to evaluate $20,000 in government membership funds while the Chamber searches for a new executive director.
  • Proclaimed July as Parks and Recreation Month. This year’s theme is “Our Park and Recreation Story,” which focuses on the experiences and memories made through parks and recreation involvement.
  • Welcomed retired police Sgt. Rick Leach as the Police Department presented him with $30,000 to help fund a double lung transplant. The money was raised through the recent Grasshopper 5K and community donations. Leach was a long-time supervisor of HSPD’s School Resource Officer unit.
  • Appointed Alicia Andrews to fill a vacancy on the Town Board of Adjustment.
