Holly Springs Receives Planning Award

 Work by Holly Springs community members, leaders and staff to develop a plan to guide the town's future was recognized at the Holly Springs Town Council's Oct. 6 meeting. 

The American Planning Association – NC Chapter presented Holly Springs with an award for the recently completed Land Use & Character Plan which was a part of the Vision Holly Springs Comprehensive Plan. The Marvin Collins Specialized Award Honorable Mention recognizes the plan's framework that sets a new vision and direction for the future of development throughout the Town's planning area. 

The award was based on the plan's: 

  • Originality, including its visionary approaches and innovative concepts that result in a meaningful advance of the planning field. 
  • Transferability, for the ideas and techniques from the plan to be able to be applied in other areas or to other projects. 
  • Equitable engagement techniques that made the project successful. 
  • The potential effectiveness and the potential of the plan being able to make a difference in the community.

The council also recognized October as National Planning Month. 

Also at the meeting, the council:

  • granted a one-year extension for a Pine Springs Preparatory Academy mobile classroom unit while construction of the new middle school is ongoing.
  • approved a preliminary plan for first phase of Carolina Springs in northwest Holly Springs. The dedication of 25 acres of town parkland is included in this phase.
