Work to place a break in the median on West Holly Springs Road at Earnie Lane is moving forward, thanks to the Holly Springs Town Council. Construction work to create a break in the median and allow left turns from West Holly Springs Road onto Earnie Lane is expected to begin in the next few weeks.
The Town Council approved the cost share partnership at its Nov. 12 workshop, allowing the work to progress.
West Holly Springs Road is a state-maintained road under the jurisdiction of the N.C. Department of Transportation. The town’s long-range transportation plan has shown it as a four-lane, median-divided roadway since 2004.
The medians were installed as part of required road widening for subdivision construction on the north side of West Holly Springs Road. To reduce the cost to taxpayers, the town required developers to pay for road improvements along their property.
The median break will be temporary until the grade separated interchange of West Holly Springs Road and NC 55 is constructed, which may restrict access points.
