Large disposable items, including appliances, televisions, furniture, water heaters, etc., are picked up by the Town at an additional charge. Discarded refrigerators, freezers or similar appliances with doors that pose an accidental trapping hazard must have the doors removed before they are set out for collection. Call Public Works to arrange for a pickup prior to setting the item out for removal. For complete information, call Public Works.

Bulky Trash
Public Works (919) 552-5920

Bulky trash items include lamps, telephones, small hand appliances, clothes, buckets, plastic containers, and miscellaneous items resulting from cleaning your garage, attic, storage shed, or closet. Place bulky trash items at the edge of your yard off the street pavement for pickup on the same day as your household garbage.

The Town does not pick up construction material debris; the Town will not collect major deposits of unwanted or abandoned furniture, appliances or incidentals related to construction projects. Citizens should call a private hauler for this type of refuse removal. For more information, contact the Department of Public Works.

For large volumes of bulky trash pickup, call the Public Works Department prior to setting the trash out for pickup. See the Large White Goods, Yard Waste and Debris Collections for fees associated with large volumes of bulky trash pickup.

Large White Goods, Yard Waste & Debris Collection
Public Works (919) 552-5920

An additional charge will apply for Town pickup of large quantities of yard waste and large or bulky trash items that do not fit inside waste receptacles. This charge only applies to loads exceeding 2 ½ cubic yards, about the size of load a pickup truck can carry, or exceeding 50 lbs. No additional fee will be charged for lesser amounts of yard waste or other trash items, and the Town's fall/winter leaf collection and Christmas tree collection will remain free of charge.

  • There are three levels of charges based on the size of the trash load. For debris loads that are 2 ½ to less than 4 cubic yards in size, or heavier than 50 lbs., a $40 fee will be charged for pickup. For debris at 4 to 8 cubic yards, an $80 fee will be charged, and for debris greater than 8 cubic yards but less than 12 cubic yards, a $120 fee will be charged.
  • Any resident who has large quantities of yard waste or large trash items should call the Town's Public Works Department after placing the trash at the edge of the front yard, just behind the curb and off the street pavement. The Public Works Department will give the resident an estimate of the amount that will be charged for a pickup, and the resident will then prepay for the collection at the Holly Springs Finance Department in Town Hall. After payment is made, the Town will make its best efforts to collect the trash within 24 hours.
  • If a large quantity of yard waste or bulky trash item is placed on a curb and the resident does not contact the Public Works Department or prepay for the trash pickup, a Public Works employee will place a notification on the resident's front door, alerting the resident of the Town's trash pickup policy and prepayment requirement. If the resident still does not call Public Works or make payment within five business days, the Town will collect the trash and add the corresponding fee to the resident's water bill.

Leaves
Public Works (919) 552-5920

Leaves are collected from November 1 through January 31. This service runs continuously, weather permitting, with Town crews going through Town, one subdivision at a time, and then starting again. Leaves must be raked to the edge of your front yard, off the street pavement, for crews to collect. The Town will not collect leaves in plastic or paper bags; please do not bag your yard waste.

Public Works (919) 552-5920

The Town collects yard waste Monday through Wednesday on this schedule.

Do not bag your yard waste.
