Auto Registration & Driver Licenses Automobile Registration You must pay to register your automobile within 30 days of relocating in the state. Title of car or name of lien holder, proof of insurance, and odometer reading are required. Your automobile must be inspected within 10 days after registration is required. Find a location to renew your automobile registration. Driver Licenses New residents must apply for a driver license within 30 days of relocating to the state. Vision and written tests are required. Road tests are given at the examiner's discretion. Free N.C. Driver Handbooks are available at driver license offices. They may be picked up for study before the test. You may also register to vote or change voter registration at DMV offices. Find a location to apply for a driver's license.
