Town Seeks Comment on Upcoming Budget 2/23/2011 The Holly Springs Town Council and Town Manager Carl Dean are interested in hearing what residents have to say about how their tax dollars will be spent in the town’s budget for the next fiscal year that begins July 1. A public hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 15 as a part of the council’s next regular business meeting in the Council Chambers of Town Hall, 128 S. Main St. “In short, this hearing will give citizens the chance to tell us how they feel their tax dollars should be spent… or, not spent,” Dean said. The town’s new fiscal year begins July 1, but the process of formulating the budget for Fiscal Year 2011-12 begins in early spring. Before enacting the budget prior to July 1, the Town Council must hold a public hearing on the proposed spending plan; however, this public hearing is held at the end of the budget preparation process. “At that point,” Dean points out, “It may be too late for any major changes to be made to the proposed budget.” By holding a pre-budget public hearing, as well as at the end of the process as required by law, officials can give public comments on the budget more serious consideration, Dean added. Residents will be asked to keep their comments to a limit of three minutes each. Residents also can send written suggestions to the Town Clerk, Town of Holly Springs, P.O. Box 8, Holly Springs, NC 27540. The email address is joni.powell@hollyspringsnc.us. All comments received will be forwarded to the Town Council for consideration. The deadline to receive written comments is 5 p.m. March 15.
