The Holly Springs Police Department is accepting applications for this summer's Police Youth Academy, which includes a week of educational and recreational programs focusing on law enforcement as a career.
This week-long course (July
11-15) includes
guest speakers and field trips plus teambuilding
exercises such as martial arts. Applications are due May 30.
The Police Youth Academy helps build positive
relationships between young people and
the officers who serve our community.
The academy is
for 30 boys and girls ages 13-
17 who are enrolled in Holly
Springs schools.
The enrollment fee is $60.
However, no child will be
turned away because of inability to pay.
The program will feature leadership and proper decision-making seminars by various guest speakers; visits to the Wake County courthouse, Wake County Public Safety Center, and the N.C. Highway Patrol; an overview of police functions; and a community service project.
The program will also include team building exercises, kick boxing, martial arts, and other related sports.
Camp will be held from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Participants can be dropped off at 8 a.m. and picked up each day by 3:30 p.m.
