Voluntary Water Conservation in Effect 4/23/2010

Holly Springs heads into the annual water conservation season with a plentiful supply and with no restrictions on when residents may water their lawns.

Everyday watering permits currently are not needed for seeding lawns or placing sod.

Residents may use sprinklers and automatic irrigation systems any day. There are no restrictions on washing cars, filling swimming pools, etc. Even so, Town officials ask that customers practice conservation and avoid wasting water.

"Our residents understand that we must be good stewards of our natural resources," Town Manager Carl Dean said.

The Town enters its May through September conservation season at Stage 0. That means there's no drought and the limit on sprinklers and irrigation systems to three times a week is voluntary.

To maintain citizens' compliance with watering rules, the Town avoids being more restrictive than necessary. But that also means that if drought returns, mandatory restrictions could go back into effect for as long as needed.
