The Holly Springs Town Council has strongly opposed recent route alternatives that show the proposed I-540 extension slicing through town.

Instead, the council supports sticking with the protected corridor north of Holly Springs. That path has been preserved for years in anticipation of the I-540 extension.

This Southeast Extension would connect to the Triangle Expressway, another toll road under construction in Wake and Durham counties. It would complete the Raleigh Outer Loop.

The Turnpike Authority is studying various plans involving new or expanded roads to handle increasing traffic in southern Wake County.
