I-540 Extension Discussed Sept. 22 9/20/2010

The N.C. Turnpike Authority will hold a public meeting Wednesday, Sept. 22 at Holly Springs High School about a proposed toll road extension of Interstate 540 that could pass through Holly Springs.

Engineers will answer questions and show possible alignments for the proposed Southeast Extension, which would span nearly 30 miles from the N.C. 55 Bypass to US 64/264 in Knightdale.

The meeting at Holly Springs High will be from 6-9 p.m. It will have an open house format, allowing citizens to arrive at their convenience.

The Holly Springs Town Council is expected to adopt a resolution regarding the proposed Southeast Extension at its regularly-scheduled meeting Tuesday night, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. in Town Hall.

The Southeast Extension would connect to the Triangle Expressway, another toll road under construction in Wake and Durham counties. It would complete the Raleigh Outer Loop.

The Turnpike Authority is studying three different plans involving new or expanded roads to handle increasing traffic in southern Wake County.
