Rex Plans to Add Surgical Services for Town of Holly Springs 1/20/2010

Rex Healthcare, with the strong and unilateral support of the Town of Holly Springs, has announced it will submit a Certificate of Need application to the N.C. Division of Health Service Regulation for three new operating rooms, including two at a facility Rex will open here in 2012.

“We fully and exclusively commit our support to Rex’s CON application to the state,” Town Manager Carl Dean said. "Our town is growing, and we look forward to Rex Healthcare’s ability to provide much-needed medical services to our community through the addition of these two new operating rooms.”

In FY2009, Rex performed 3,000 outpatient surgical cases for Holly Springs and southern Wake residents at its facilities throughout Wake County. Rex also has a successful history of operating outpatient centers in the Triangle—Rex Healthcare of Wakefield’s surgery center, which opened in 2009, is already exceeding projections. Rex Healthcare performs more surgical procedures than any other provider in the Triangle.

Rex Surgical Specialists, which formed in late 2009 to expand the surgical care available to Wake County residents, will also have an office at the Holly Springs facility to bring the town of Holly Springs its first surgical physician practice.

“We hope the state recognizes the need to support this application for operating rooms, as Rex generated the need for the three ORs in the state master facility plan,” said David Strong, president of Rex Healthcare. “The addition of these operating rooms to our campus in Holly Springs will provide a comprehensive center in this high growth area of Wake County. We’re looking forward to working with the Town of Holly Springs on this endeavor.”
