Town Offices Open 10 a.m. Tuesday 2/1/2010

Holly Springs Town offices will delay opening Tuesday until 10 a.m. to allow for road conditions to further improve.

The Holly Springs Town Council still is scheduled to meet Tuesday night, Feb. 2.

Holly Springs Parks and Recreation follows the cancellation policy of Wake County Public Schools for programs, classes and games during weekdays at Town facilities.

The Holly Springs Police Department urges motorists to be especially careful if they must venture out during inclement weather.

Police offers respond to numerous crashes during times of inclement weather. Many of these crashes are avoidable.

Contributing factors include driving too fast for conditions, following too closely, failure to yield, and otherwise driving carelessly.

Allow a safe driving distance, at least three seconds of space between vehicles.

Holly Springs police offer these additional safety tips to motorists on icy roads:

• Make arrangements for alternate routes and allow additional travel time in inclement weather.
• Make sure windshield wipers are in proper working order.
• Make sure external lighting is operating properly and vehicle glass is free of obstruction.
• Give 100 percent attention to driving. Inattention is a common contributor to crashes.
• Don’t take unnecessary risks. Only venture out if it is absolutely necessary.
