Schools Plan Emergency Drill Jan. 28 1/26/2009

Holly Ridge Middle and Elementary schools and Holly Springs Elementary School will be closed off briefly Wednesday morning, Jan. 28, as police and school officials conduct an emergency response drill.

No one will be allowed on campus during the drill, which is scheduled to start about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday and last only about 10 minutes.

"This drill is to practice communication between the neighboring schools, law enforcement and Wake County security to ensure the safety of all students, teachers and citizens," said Lt. Anthony Revels of the Holly Springs Police Department.

Passersby will see police activity around the campuses Wednesday morning. Police and school officials are spreading word of the exercise so that people don't think it's an actual emergency. Phone calls about the drill were made to parents.

The drill was rescheduled for Jan. 28 after snow forced postponement the previous week. Letters were sent home with students the first time around.

For more information, contact Wake County Public Schools or call the Holly Springs Police Department at (919) 557-9111.
