Water Treatment Changes During March 2/4/2009 Town drinking water may smell and taste more like chlorine in March, although it remains safe to drink. Treatment plants change how they disinfect water each March. State and federal rules require a balancing of treatment methods for safe drinking water. Water plants throughout the state do this. Kidney dialysis users should be aware that the water may contain chloramines, chlorine, or a mixture during March. During April, the Harnett County plant that provides Holly Springs with water will return to chloramines disinfection. Mixtures of chlorine and chloramines may be present during the early days of April. Aquarium owners should use neutralizers that work on chlorine as well as chloramines. Town crews will flush lines during this period. Flushing lines may cause minor discoloration of the water. It remains safe to drink. Call Amy Moore, Water Quality director, at (919) 577-1090 with any questions.
