Bass Lake Road Bridge Closed Until Nov. 20 10/27//2009

Bass Lake Road will remain closed to thru traffic until Nov. 20 so that the state Department of Transportation can work on the bridge at Bass Lake Park and Retreat Center.

The retreat center parking lot will remain open to traffic on the Holly Springs side of the bridge. Traffic on Bass Lake Road heading away from town still will be able to turn right into the retreat center or left into the Sunset Ridge development.

However, maintenance on the two-lane bridge will temporarily sever one of the most direct connections between downtown Holly Springs and downtown Fuquay-Varina.

The bridge repair is a state Department of Transportation project. The Town is not involved in the repair. Initially, the closure was scheduled for Nov. 2-13. The closure has been extended until Nov. 20.

Detour signs will be posted directing traffic to use Holly Springs Road and Sunset Lake Road as an alternate route from one town to another.

Bridge maintenance workers will temporarily strengthen the bridge by adding to the supporting structure underneath. The bridge is scheduled for replacement soon, possibly in 2010.
