Water Restrictions Eased 8/22/08 The Town has eased water restrictions effective today, Aug. 22. Customers can now use sprinklers and irrigation systems three times a week by schedule. Car washing and power washing are not restricted. The Town has returned to Stage 1 restrictions, which were in effect until mid-June when a line broke at the Harnett County water treatment plant. Holly Springs buys its water from Harnett County. Harnett County plant repairs were completed by mid-July. However, the Town continued under Stage 2 restrictions during biennial system maintenance, which includes cleaning of Town water tanks. System maintenance was completed Thursday. Amy Moore, the Town's Water Quality director, said such maintenance usually is conducted during off-peak season for water demand. Scheduling conflicts with the Town's maintenance contractor led to the timing of the just-completed maintenance. "We appreciate everyone's patience and adherence to restrictions," Moore said. With Friday's change, Holly Springs is under the same level of restrictions as its sole supplier. "Our contract obligates us to be at least as restrictive as Harnett County," Moore said, adding that the Town has the option of being more restrictive. Holly Springs' customers were using an average of 3 million gallons of water a day before restrictions increased after the water line break. Since that time, daily usage has averaged about 2 million gallons a day.
