Veterans Park Dedicated Nov. 9 11/3/08

Those who have served in the military and other townspeople are invited to the dedication of Veterans Park on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 4 p.m. at 600 Bikram Drive.

"We want to invite all veterans to come out," said Len Bradley, director of Holly Springs Parks and Recreation.

Holly Springs' Community Band will play patriotic music. Mayor Dick Sears will speak at the dedication.

The ceremony will culminate in the unveiling of a stone wall containing plaques representing the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. The stone wall is 20 feet long and 3 feet high.

The neighborhood park, which opened in the summer, is on 10 acres that were provided by the developer of the Windcrest subdivision, said Bradley. The property includes a pond.

Veterans Park amenities include a picnic shelter with restrooms, fitness and playground equipment, and a half-mile paved greenway loop that is part of a north-south greenway running between Sunset Lake and Holly Springs roads.

The picnic shelter is available for reservation. Otherwise, usage is first-come, first-served.
