Harris Plant Sirens Tested March 19 3/04/08 Progress Energy will test its new siren system at full volume within 10 miles of the Harris Nuclear Plant between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19. Until then, the new sirens will be tested individually for short durations at full volume. The new sirens do not rotate. They will emit a loud, steady tone similar to the existing sound, but without the low volume growl of startup and shutdown and without the fluctuating volume of rotating speakers. In an actual emergency at the Harris plant, the sirens would sound four times for three minutes each time.
