HollyFest Held Oct. 25 10/21/08 Enjoy the biggest HollyFest celebration yet on Saturday, Oct. 25 with food, music, crafts, contests, games for kids and much more at Womble Park. The fourth annual fall festival begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. Admission is free. Highlights include:
New this year is the Cornhole Cup, competition involving the trendy game of trying to toss a corn-filled bag into a hole in a raised platform. The entry fee is $25. Prizes include $125 cash for first place and gift certificates to local businesses for second and third. “We’re excited to make this year’s HollyFest the biggest and best ever,” said Julia Hinton, a coordinator of the festival with Holly Springs Parks and Recreation. “With the increase in vendors, rides and entertainment, we hope to have something for everyone.” With 20 food vendors this year, there’s something for nearly every taste – Cajun food, hot dogs and hamburgers, turkey legs, barbecue, gourmet cookies, funnel cakes, ice cream, nuts and more. At 33, the number of arts and crafts vendors is nearly twice that of last year. The entertainment lineup includes a church band, choir, children’s dance, puppets and African hand-drumming. The Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a business expo at HollyFest, enabling businesses to showcase products and services to the community. Various nonprofit organizations will also be at HollyFest to share their mission. Registration is under way for the annual HollyFest 5K at Womble Park. The race starts at 9 a.m. the day of the festival. A free 1-mile fitness walk and free "tot trot" follow shortly afterward. Parking is available at Womble Park and on nearby streets. Early voting will be under way at Hunt Community Center across Stinson Avenue, so spaces near the center may be sparse.
