Hydrants Flushed During Maintenance 1/11/2008 Water Quality personnel will flush fire hydrants in various places throughout town this month as part of periodic maintenance to ensure that drinking water in the lines stays fresh. "In light of the drought, we will do the minimum necessary to maintain water quality," said Amy Moore, interim director of the Town's Water Quality Department. Like other towns and cities in the area, Holly Springs remains under water restrictions because of exceptional drought. Flushing will occur throughout January at various times during the day, typically for a few minutes at a time. Locations will include spots in the distribution system where water tends not to circulate as much. Most residents probably won't detect any change in the taste or odor of their drinking water, Moore said, although some might notice improvement. Holly Springs buys most of its drinking water from Harnett County, but also gets some water from the city of Raleigh. Moore said the flushing would not significantly affect the amount purchased from Raleigh. If you have questions about the flushing or about water quality, contact Moore at (919) 577-2273 or e-mail amy.moore@hollyspringsnc.us.
