Rain Barrels Sold Saturday, March 15 2/27/08

Holly Springs rain barrel sales resume Saturday, March 15 at Bass Lake Park with a big supply designed to give folks a much better opportunity to purchase a barrel.

Holly Springs residents get first crack at buying a rain barrel from 8 - 11 a.m. on March 15. The sale opens to everyone - residents and non-residents - at 11 a.m. that day. No pre-orders are accepted. The limit is 2 barrels per person.

Rather than continue selling the barrels in quick spurts when a shipment comes in, the Town is having the manufacturer stock up for the “Rain Barrel Blowout Sale."

Customers pay what the Town pays - $75 for a 60-gallon barrel or $85 for an 80-gallon barrel. For an additional $5, the Town will deliver to Holly Springs residents.

If you miss out on getting a rain barrel March 15, you can take a class on making your own at 1 p.m. or 3 p.m. at Bass Lake. Space is limited, though. Register online or at Parks and Recreation facilities. The cost of the class is $5 for residents and $6 for others.

Holly springs rain barrels come with a brass spigot, two overflow valves that could be used to connect additional barrels, and a screen to keep out debris and insects.

A mere quarter inch of rainfall provides enough runoff from the average roof to fill a typical rain barrel. The barrels provide a way for residents to sustain landscaping in a time of exceptional drought and increasingly stringent watering restrictions.
