Deadline Nears for Summer Work Program 5/15/07

Applications are due May 29 for a new Parks and Recreation summer program offering paid work experience for 14-16 year olds.

The Summer Work Crew initiative combines paid work with educational field trips related to state and local government. Several luncheons are scheduled with local leaders, giving students the opportunity to meet and greet.

Crew members must be able to work outside for up to 8 hours in a day and lift up to 40 pounds.
They must commit to an entire 4-week session.

Applicants should indicate the session(s) for which they are applying:

  • Session 1: June 18-22, June 25-29, July 9-13, and July 16-20
  • Session 2: July 23-27, July 30-Aug. 3, Aug. 6-10 and Aug. 13-17

See how to apply.

Joining a work crew will enable students build a resume, network with local officials and gain confidence by giving back to the community, said Amanda Williamson, one of the work crew supervisors.

"The purpose of this program is for young residents to get involved in the community, gain valuable work experience and learn life skills that will benefit them in the future," Williamson said.
