4-Way Stop Recommended at Avent Ferry & Ballentine 10/29/2007

The intersection of Avent Ferry Road and Ballentine Street behind Town Hall has been recommended for a four-way stop sign.

The four-way stop, which requires Town Council approval, would be a change for motorists on Avent Ferry Road. Currently, only Ballentine Street traffic stops at the intersection.

Pedestrian safety is part of the reason for recommending the four-way stop. A crosswalk is there for pedestrians headed to and from Holly Springs Cultural Center on Ballentine Street.

Adding stop signs on Avent Ferry Road  would also make it easier for people backing out of parking spaces behind Town Hall.

Holly Springs police will be watching especially closely for speeders on Avent Ferry Road heading into downtown. The speed limit on that stretch of roadway is 35 mph.

A decision on the four-way stop could come as early as the Town Council's second meeting in November. Speed limits and stop sign locations are specified in Town ordinances, which are adopted by the council.
