Holly Springs Police Join Speeding Crackdown 11/06/2007

Driving too fast is always a bad idea. For the two weeks beginning Nov. 12, it will be a particularly bad idea in Holly Springs.

The Holly Springs Police Department will have extra officers out patrolling for speeders between Nov. 12 and Nov. 25 as part of the statewide “No Need 2 Speed” campaign.

“The main focus is going to be neighborhoods,” said Lt. Michael Patterson. But officers will also pay special attention to N.C. 55 and other main roads during the busiest hours.

The Governor's Highway Safety Program is conducting the statewide campaign, asking law enforcement agencies throughout the state to participate in the speeding crackdown and to report results. The “No Need 2 Speed” campaign occurs in conjunction with the state Highway Patrol's “Operation Slow Down.”

Neighborhoods are a primary focus for Holly Springs officers because of the danger that speeding poses for children who are playing nearby and for pedestrians.

Officers will be targeting streets where they've received speeding complaints.

Patterson said many of those ticketed for speeding through a neighborhood live in that same neighborhood. In some cases, he said, drivers ticketed for speeding were among those who had called to complain about speeders.
