Town Earns New Industry Award 2/07/07

Triangle Business Journal has honored the Town's Novartis project with one of the publication's annual commercial real estate awards.

The Town and Novartis received the business journal's SPACE Award in the Economic Development: New Industry category at a banquet Feb. 1.

Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics has begun clearing land in Holly Springs Business Park for a vaccine manufacturing facility that would employ approximately 350 people. Completion of construction is expected by late 2008. Novartis plans to be in full production by 2012, after extensive testing.

For Town Economic Development Director Jenny Mizelle, the Triangle Business Journal award is recognition of Holly Springs' long-term strategy to attract high-paying jobs.

“Receiving this award with Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics is a testament to our efforts over several years to market Holly Springs as an ideal location for new industries, including bio-manufacturing facilities,” she said.

Triangle Business Journal began its SPACE awards 13 years ago. The award that the Town and Novartis received is based on the projected investment and job creation.

Novartis' investment is expected to be approximately $267 million. The company is planning a half-million square foot facility in the business park, west of N.C. 55 Bypass.

Novartis has leased temporary office space in Rosewood Centre in Holly Springs. The company expects to employ more than 60 people in Holly Springs by the end of 2007.
