Location Changed for Drop-Off Recycling 3/23/07

Waste Industries has stopped collecting recyclable materials in the parking lot across Ballentine Street from Town Hall.

Residents wanting to drop off recyclables can visit a convenience center operated by Wake County Solid Waste Management instead. The county has nearly a dozen such centers, including 6000 Old Smithfield Road at the entrance to the South Wake waste transfer station.

Convenience centers are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., except during some holidays. Residential customers can use them at no extra charge.

The Town's solid waste program includes curbside recycling for glass, metal cans, junk mail, newspaper, etc. So many of those using the recycling station in the Town parking lot were not Holly Springs residents.

The "igloos" for newspaper, cans, plastics and glass in the Town parking lot were the only remaining recycling containers of their type in the county.

Luncie McNeil, the Town's Public Works director, said that emptying the igloos required Waste Industries to use a special piece of equipment. "It's not cost effective to have that for just this one site," he said, referring to Waste Industries.
