Old Town Hall Property for Sale 6/27/07

An old frame house that is part of town history occupies land primed to play a role in Holly Springs' future.

The circa-1880s house at 127 N. Main St. served as Town Hall from the late 1980s until 1995. Afterward, it was Public Safety headquarters.

A prefabricated building that has since been moved from the site was a Town fire station until last year.

Now the Town is selling the house and land.

Prospective buyers can tour the inside of the house between 10 a.m. and noon on Wednesday, July 11.

Sealed bids may be submitted to the town clerk until 2 p.m. Monday, July 16. The minimum starting bid is $330,000, which is the appraised value.

The 1.16-acre parcel is in the Downtown Village District. Two blocks south is the new Town Hall, which became the nucleus for downtown development when it opened in 2003. Last December, Holly Springs Cultural Center opened a block west of the current Town Hall. Other projects to enhance downtown are in the works. New businesses are opening.

The old Town Hall, known as the Holt House, has fallen into disrepair. Moving or restoring the house may be prohibitively expensive, and the new owner may decide to demolish it.

Town Manager Carl Dean hopes redevelopment of the property will be a key part of downtown revitalization.
