Town Hall Volunteers Bag Litter 5/21/07 More than 40 Town employees collected 440 pounds of litter May 18 during a sweep along downtown streets and main roads into Holly Springs. Seven teams of volunteers covered both sides of 10 ¼ miles of roadway, the equivalent of 20 ½ miles. Assistant Town Manager Charles Simmons said the volunteer cleanup was a way of emphasizing the importance of community appearance. "In addition to helping with the beautification of the town, our efforts have brought renewed attention to issues relating to the appearance of Holly Springs," Simmons said. "By all accounts our efforts were a total success." The two-hour litter sweep netted more than 45 bags of refuse. Among the items collected were a television, wreath, lawn furniture and articles of clothing. The sweep included Holly Springs Road, Main Street, Avent Ferry Road downtown, Bass Lake Road, Earp Street and the area of Grigsby Avenue and Raleigh Street. The volunteer effort involved people throughout Town government. Public Works Department employees served as crew leaders. Town employees intend to organize a similar cleanup this fall.
