King Holiday Celebration Set for Jan. 14 1/09/07

Holly Springs will hold its 3rd annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration on Sunday, Jan. 14 with a unity march followed by a program at Holly Springs Cultural Center.

Everyone is invited to join the march, which will begin about 3:45 p.m. in the Food Lion parking lot at 517 N. Main St. The march will end at the cultural center. The program will begin at 5 p.m.

Mayor Dick Sears encourages citizens to celebrate King's contributions toward helping people understand the true meaning of living together as one.

The theme of this year's national celebration is "Remembering the Dream Through Unity and Commitment."

The Rev. Otis G. Byrd, steering committee chairman for Holly Springs' celebration, noted that King was not only a dreamer, but also a man of action.

"Community action is necessary to realize his dream for a better country," Byrd said.
