Farmers Market Moving Forward 2/19/07 The Town is seeking vendors and a part-time coordinator for Holly Springs' first farmers market. The market is tentatively scheduled to open late this May and operate on Saturday mornings until early November. It will be in the parking lot between Town Hall and Mims Square. The Town will accept applications until March 6 for the coordinator's position. It pays $10 per hour and involves 10-15 hours per week. See details and an application for this and other Town of Holly Springs jobs. Vendors must produce the food and make the crafts that they sell. There is no restriction on how far away they can live. See details and a vendor application. Read also the rules for the Holly Springs Farmers Market. A survey last fall that drew nearly 600 responses showed strong support for opening a farmers market in downtown Holly Springs. Survey participants said they would like to buy more produce directly from growers. See an executive summary containing analysis of responses. In recent months, Town staff members have been evaluating what makes farmers markets successful. Wake County Cooperative Extension and the extension program at N.C. A&T State University have provided insight. For more information about Holly Springs' plan, contact Daniel Weeks or Jeff Jones.
