Cultural Center Enjoys Busy First Month 1/16/07

From the sweet, soulful sounds of Gospel Jam to the award-wining theater production of “The Night Before Christmas Carol", Holly Springs Cultural Center has been abuzz with activity since its Dec. 9 opening.

Five theatrical productions were held the first month by groups including the Concert Singers of Cary, The Holly Springs Concert Band, and the Carolina Puppet Theater for Kids.

“The center is off to a tremendous start, and community support has been overwhelming,” said Bob Klaus, cultural center manager. “Plans call for over 100 special events, classes, concerts and other theater performances in 2007.”

Julia Hinton says the many community arts classes she coordinates have been well received. Classes for children and adults in music, art, drama, dance and cooking started in January. Several reached peak attendance during the first session. Classes will continue year-round.

“It has been heartwarming to see the smiles and wide eyes of our students as they come to start the New Year at one of our many cultural classes,” Hinton said.

The free movie series presented in association with the Holly Springs Library also debuted with two showings of “Polar Express.” Free movies are offered weekly on the first and third Friday evenings and the second and fourth Saturday mornings of each month.

Other gatherings have included a Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce Eye Opener event and a Holly Springs Rotary Club meeting. The chamber's annual awards banquet will be held there Jan. 26.

“Our plans for great events have barely just started, and residents should expect many exciting announcements in the coming months,” Klaus said. “Our goal is for the center to be a great place for the community to gather. We are working hard to make this the best community arts center in North Carolina.”
