Child Safety Seats Checked 9/24/2007

Want assurance your child's car seat is installed correctly? Visit the Holly Springs Police Department on Saturday, Sept. 29 between 9 a.m. and noon for assistance with proper installation.

The Police Department and Safe Kids of Wake County will hold a child restraint seat check at Town Hall, in the rear parking lot off Avent Ferry Road.

The checks are free for everyone and take 10 - 20 minutes per vehicle.

"The main focus of the event is to educate and train parents how to properly install their child restraint seats in their vehicles," said Lt. Michael Patterson.

Experts estimate that between 80 and 90 percent of car seats are installed improperly. Correctly installing safety seats is crucial to protecting your child from a car crash.

Safe Kids Worldwide is a nonprofit organization that seeks to prevent accidental injuries to children. Accidents such as motor vehicle crashes, fires, drowning, poisoning and falls are the leading cause of death for children 14 and under, according to Safe Kids.
