Volunteers Needed for Planning Posts 10/18/2007

Applications for the Town Planning Board and the Board of Adjustment are due at the Department of Planning & Zoning by Monday, Nov. 12.

The Town Council is scheduled to consider appointments to the citizen panels at its Dec. 4 meeting.

Planning Board

The Planning Board reviews development proposals, rezoning, and other development-related requests and offers recommendations to the Town Council. The Planning Board also develops and recommends revisions and additions to zoning regulations and the Comprehensive Plan in partnership with the Town Council and the Town's planning staff.

Although the board has no judicial authority, the Town Council relies on the Planning Board for guidance in their decision-making process. The meetings are open to the public and are held every fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in Town Hall.

The following positions will be appointed to 3-Year Terms:

  • 2- In-Town Members (Term 1/1/2008 - 12/31/2010 )
  • 1- ETJ Member (Term 1/1/2008 - 12/31/2010 )

Board of Adjustment

The Board of Adjustment has quasi-judicial powers and acts separately from the Town Council. The Board conducts public hearings and renders rulings on variances from the Town's zoning and subdivision regulations.

The board also hears any appeals by the Planning Department staff. The meetings are open to the public. The board meets as needed on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in Town Hall.

The following positions will be appointed for 3-Year Terms:

  • 1- In-Town Alternate Member (Term 1/1/2008 – 12/31/2010 )
  • 1- ETJ Alternate Member (Term 1/1/2008 – 12/31/2010 )

Appointments to these boards occur annually. Applicants should have an interest in the future of the Town, be available to attend meetings, and live within the Town limits or the Town's extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ).
