Art & Costume Contests Highlight Annual Turtle Festival 03/06/06

April 1 is April Fools Day. But in Holly Springs, it's also Turtle Day.

The second annual Turtle Festival will be Saturday, April 1 at Bass Lake Park from noon until 4 p.m. Celebrate turtles with crafts and displays. Meet live turtles and turtle experts.

The festival includes an art contest that open to all elementary school students in the area. Festival organizers are seeking art work in any medium (maximum size 12 inches by 18 inches) that represents a North Carolina turtle.

Children can submit entries at their school or at Bass Lake Park. The deadline is 9 a.m. on Monday, March 20.

New this year is an original turtle costume contest open to children 12 and under. Register at the festival by 1 p.m. for a costume parade at 1:30. Prizes will be awarded at 2 p.m.
