Christmas Parade, Cultural Center Opening Set for Dec. 9 12/05/06

Stride into the holiday season Saturday, Dec. 9 at the 12th annual Happy Holly Days Christmas Parade down Main Street.

The parade begins at 11 a.m. near the Food Lion store. It ends at Town Hall.

“It gets everybody into the spirit of the holidays,” said Town Clerk Joni Powell, co-organizer of the parade with Information Clerk Barb Koblich.

“There's something in the parade for every age,” Powell says.

The parade lineup features marching bands, Scout troops, Holly Springs School of Dance, Shriners in their miniature trucks, Stormy the Carolina Hurricanes' mascot, McGruff the Crime Dog, vintage military vehicles, etc. Food vendors will be in the parking lot next to Town Hall.

A Classic Car Expo will run from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.  in the parking lots of Holly Springs Baptist Church.

After the parade, walk over to celebrate the new Holly Springs Library and Cultural Center on West Ballentine St., a block from Town Hall.

The Holly Springs Concert Band will perform from 12:30-1:15 p.m. The Springs Singers Children's Choir will follow. At 1:30 is the ribbon-cutting for the Town-owned center and county library attached to it.

Meet the staff at an open house from 2-5 p.m. The Holly Springs High marching band will play. Crafts for kids and other activities will be part of the festivities. The Cary Concert Singers Chamber Choir performs at 7:30 p.m. at the cultural center.

A Night Before Christmas Carol will be performed Dec. 16.

“We are so excited to kick off the new Holly Springs Great Performance series with two incredible holiday productions,” says Bob Klaus, cultural center manager.
