Masonic Lodge Part of Holly Springs' History 10/20/06 Holly Springs will unveil its first historical marker in a ceremony Thursday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. at Masonic Lodge #115 on Raleigh Street in Holly Springs. Mayor Dick Sears and Master of the Lodge Rick Barton will speak at the ceremony. Barton and Nathan Williams, a long-time member of the lodge, will unveil the marker. An open house and tour of the lodge will follow. For more information, call Barb Koblich in Holly Springs Town Hall at (919) 552-6221. The charter for Masonic Lodge #115 was granted in 1847. The lodge was built in 1854, and Holly Springs Academy was housed on the first floor beginning that year while the school was constructed. The building is one of the oldest lodge and school buildings in Wake County. The Masonic Lodge was only of only 10 buildings of size in an 1871 survey of the Holly Springs community. In 1990, the town still had fewer than 1,000 residents. Rapid growth since has pushed Holly Springs' population over 18,000.
