Growth Plan Meeting Set for July 12 6/29/06

Planning for the Town's explosive growth will be the subject of a community meeting Wednesday, July 12 from 6-8 p.m. at Hunt Community Center.

A new Comprehensive Plan is being developed. It will serve as a policy guide and future land use strategy to help Town officials update the zoning code. The plan will provide vision for growth management, economic development, housing, transportation, recreation and open space.

The Town is also completing a Parks & Recreation Master Plan to ensure that recreational requirements of the Town's diverse and rapidly increasing population can be met over the next decade and beyond.

Holly Springs' population increased ten-fold during the 1990s to nearly 9,200 and currently is estimated at 17,500. The town is projected to have more than 31,000 residents by 2015.

To assist with drafting the plans, the Town has hired a consulting firm, Peter J. Smith & Company, Inc., of Buffalo, N.Y.

Over the next several months, Town officials will seek advice from residents and community specialists to prioritize issues and ensure that public opinion and local expertise shape both plans. In September, a survey will be distributed randomly to homeowners and renters.

The Town will hold a second public meeting on the Comprehensive Plan in November. The Town Council is expected to adopt it in May 2007.
