Town's Erosion Control Program Receives State Award The N.C. Sedimentation Control Commission has given the Town of Holly Springs' sedimentation and erosion control program an award for overall excellence. It is the second such award in three years. “It proves that with all the development, we can maintain a high quality program,” said Heather Keefer, environmental specialist in the Town's Engineering Department. Sediment is the number one source of stream pollution. It carries pollutants while smothering aquatic life. Examples of erosion control devices include silt fences and basins to help filter what storm water runoff carries. The most effective method is planting grass in graded areas, Keefer said. Cross-training development and engineering inspectors has been part of the solution to managing the increasing workload as more land in Town is developed.. In January 2003, the Town also received a Local Program Award from the Sedimentation Control Commission. For more about Holly Springs' sedimentation and erosion control program, call (919) 557-2909.
