Development Update Session Held on Sept. 20 9/08/06 There's a lot happening in Holly Springs these days. Visit Town Hall on Sept. 20 and learn the latest about new businesses and Town facilities that are on the way. The public is invited to a Development Information Session from 6 - 8 p.m. Sept. 20 for details on projects that are under construction or in the planning stages. "We felt this would be a great opportunity to inform our citizens about all the exciting projects within the town,” said Jenny Mizelle, the Town's Economic Development director. Examples of projects on the ground or in the pipeline include: Novartis – The pharmaceutical giant will build a manufacturing facility in Holly Springs employing approximately 350 to produce flu vaccines using new technologies in Holly Springs Business Park off N.C. 55 Bypass. Construction will begin in early 2007, with the first phase scheduled for completion by late 2008. Shoppes at Holly Springs – Land clearing is under way for this shopping center where a Super Wal-Mart is scheduled to open by fall 2007 on N.C. 55 Bypass. Holly Springs Library and Cultural Center – The center is scheduled to open in December 2006 on West Ballentine Street a block from Town Hall. This project represents the first partnership of its kind in Wake County – a Town cultural center connected to a Wake County branch library. The development information session will be the second such update that Town officials have provided in the past 2 1/2 years. "With the volume of commercial and industrial activity we're now seeing," Town Manager Carl Dean said, "this [development update] probably could be an annual event." Enjoy refreshments and talk with Town staff members from 6 – 6:45 p.m. in the lobby of Town Hall and in the Holleman Room downstairs. Maps and renderings of projects will be on display. Presentations on various topics by Town staff members will begin at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers upstairs in Town Hall. The Planning Department will give a progress report on the comprehensive plan update that is expected to go to the Town Council next spring. It will serve as a guide for growth management, economic development, housing, transportation, recreation and open space. A new Parks & Recreation Master Plan is also in the works. For more information on the Sept. 20 gathering or what's happening in Holly Springs, call the Economic Development Department at (919) 557-3923.
