Holly Springs Under Voluntary Water Conservation Measures 11/07/05

Holly Springs is not under mandatory water restrictions. Even so, Town officials ask that customers use water wisely.

Although Raleigh imposed mandatory conservation measures Nov. 1, those rules do not cover Holly Springs . The Town gets most of its water from Harnett County and has sharply reduced how much it buys from Raleigh.

Holly Springs has sufficient water to meet demand without mandatory restrictions, Public Utilities Director Thomas Tillage said Monday.

The Town cut back on Raleigh water purchases in late October, partly in response to Raleigh officials' efforts to curb demand. Water levels in Falls Lake are at their lowest since 2002.

Harnett County draws its water from the Cape Fear River.

In recent years, Holly Springs has invested millions of dollars infrastructure to ensure a reliable supply of water and to meet future demand. That includes installing 14 miles of 36-inch diameter pipeline between Holly Springs and a pumping station that the Town helped pay for.

“We knew that to continue to grow, we would need more water,” Tillage said.

If you have questions about water use rules, call Public Utilities at (919) 577-2273 or Public Information at (919) 557-2918.
