7/15/05 Plan Holly Springs’ Downtown Future
Join fellow Town residents, staff and consultants as work continues on a development plan to enhance downtown Holly Springs. The Village District Area Plan will give more details to guide downtown growth than the Town-wide development plan currently in place. Share your ideas on how you would like to see downtown develop by participating in an upcoming meeting. Already one public meeting has been held, and results from an online survey at www.hollyspringsnc.us/downtown.htm continue to be tallied. A series of upcoming interactive public meetings (listed above) will continue to garner public input as the plan is shaped. A charrette will be held Wednesday and Thursday, July 27 and 28, from 9-11:30 a.m. and 2-4:30 p.m. each day in the Holleman Meeting Room at Town Hall. Residents are invited to drop in any time during the interactive charrette as the project designers put the thoughts of the Town and residents to paper. Then, a Community Workshop Wednesday, July 27, from 7-9 p.m. in the Hunt Community Center cafeteria will allow public participants to react to the team's interpretation of the public comments that have been received. Participants at the meeting will help the design team refine the plans and guidelines presented. The public workshops wrap up Thursday evening, July 28, with the Public Review Session in the Town Hall Council Chambers as the design team will present the draft report that will describe the plan and the vision upon which it is based. The review session will last from 6:45-9 p.m. with presentations at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. In August, the plan is expected to be presented to the Planning Board for its recommendation, and in September the plan is to be finalized by the Town Council. Following the plan's adoption, the Town expects to begin the implementation of the plan by changing ordinances and policies to encourage the plan's execution. The Town Council and staff also will seek public and private funding, including grants, to work toward accomplishing the plan, from prioritizing the Town's Capital Improvement Projects to developing additional Economic Development marketing materials.
