Please Think Twice Before Allowing Children to Leave Their Marks

While writing in wet cement may be tempting, Holly Springs officials are asking parents to prevent their children from defacing public sidewalks.

Recently, the Holly Springs Public Works Department began a repair project that spans sidewalks throughout town and will be ongoing throughout the year. Uneven sidewalks and sidewalks with cracks or other damage are being repaired. Recently and on multiple occasions, employees caught children writing in the cement – and it was not just handprints and wholesome words the children were leaving behind!

“Please remember that leaving marks of any sort in the wet cement of public sidewalks is considered defacing public property and is illegal,” said Holly Springs Police Chief Cecil Parker. “We are urging parents to control their children and prevent this destruction of public property.”

Parker added that children – and their parents – could face charges of defacing public property if they are caught.
