1/27/05 Town Sets Aside Feb. 5 for Early Summer Day Camp Registration Due to the high volume of parents registering children for the Holly Springs Parks & Recreation Summer Camp last year, a special early registration day – Saturday, Feb. 5 – has been set specifically for this year's Summer Camp registration. Feb. 5, registration will be held at the Hunt Center from 8 a.m. - noon . Parents must bring a completed Summer Camp registration packet and a current immunization record for each child. For a registration packet, contact Parks & Recreation Leisure Programs Assistant Julie Tew at (919) 557-9603 . Summer camps are held at the Hunt Center weekdays, June 6-Aug. 12, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Each week-long camp focuses on a different theme, including arts and crafts, sports, and camping out. The camps are for ages 5-7, 8-10 and 11-13. Cost for most week-long camps is $60 for residents. Cost for the Fit-n-Fun and Run-a-Round camps is $80 per week due to the increased number of off-campus activities. Early arrival at 7 a.m. and late pick-up by 6 p.m. are available at an additional cost. Some scholarships are available. “The camps are one of the most fun and most affordable ways for children to spend their time during the summer,” said Julie Tew , Holly Springs Parks & Recreation leisure program assistant. “Plus, it's convenient for parents to bring their children here and know they are safe during the summer.” On the first day of registration last year, about 75% of the day camp slots were filled, and the Parks & Recreation Department reaped a record one-day revenue. Within 12 hours of opening registration, about 470 summer day-camp slots out of 624 total were filled. "That shows the quality of our camp and how much people like our summer camp," said Len Bradley , director of Parks and Recreation. The first camps to sell out last year were the Splash-a-Round and Run-a-Round camps for ages 5-7. The Splash-a-Round camp involves water activities every day – including learning about the plants and animals that live in the Womble Park pond and playing in a system of yard sprinklers set up in the park fields. In the Run-a-Round camp, participants travel on a different field trip every day. Destinations include a miniature golf course, roller skating rink and bowling alley.
