Holly Springs Ranked the Safest North Carolina Municipality with More Than 10,000 People

In a recent study based on crime numbers from the FBI, Holly Springs was ranked the safest North Carolina municipality with a population of more than 10,000 people. The study, conducted by The Shelby Star, compared the state's raw crime numbers for 55 North Carolina municipalities. The numbers for violent crimes, such as murders and rapes, in each municipality were then divided by that municipality's population and multiplied by 1,000. Holly Springs was ranked as the top safest city in total violent crime.

“One of the most important we things do here and why people move here is the high quality of life,” said Town Manager Carl Dean. “If families and citizens feel safe, that only enhances our well-being as a community.

“The credit for this top safety ranking needs to go to Public Safety Chief Cecil Parker and the members of not only our police department but our fire and rescue employees who provide the exemplary services,” Dean said.

Parker chalked up the town's safety raking to a community that works together.

“Holly Springs has remained a safe community as it has grown because of the support of the town manager and Town Council that provides us the resources we need,” he said. “And, citizens help us by calling us with small pieces of information that help us solve crime.”

Parker mentioned the recent example of the Public Safety Department receiving a call from a Sunset Ridge resident who noticed a suspicious car that looked out of place. Thanks to the call, which a Holly Springs police officer investigated, juveniles accused of a series of Wake County break-ins were caught.

“We are very proactive,” Parker said of his force of 26 police officers and of town management. “We want to remain a safe community and deal with issues before they arise.”
