Have Some "Reel" Fun at Bass Lake

There's “reel” fun to be had at Bass Lake Park & Retreat Center – literally! Throughout the month, a variety of fishing programs are being offered.

Among the programs for adults interested in fly fishing, the Basic Knot Tying with Big Wally program on Saturday, March 19, will give an introduction to the sport, as well as basic instruction on equipment/tooling identification and use, and an overview on insect life cycles and fish behavior. Each student will receive basic instruction on fly pattern identification, style and proportion, material selection, and fly tying techniques. Following practical demonstrations, each student will be given an opportunity to demonstrate proper fly tying techniques. Advance registration for the program is required; cost is $85 per resident.

Not So Fishy After All…

During March, a variety of other programs that have nothing to do with fish will be held at Bass Lake . A workshop for green thumbs, Gardening for Butterflies, will be held March 19, and a free geo cache workshop will be held March 26. (Geo caching is a sport where GPS devices are used to find a hidden prize, often a weatherproof container that includes a log book and assortment of trinkets to exchange. The person who finds the geo cache will leave a trinket behind and take a trinket from the container.) Advance registration is required for both workshops.

To register for fishy or not-so-fishy programs, or for more information, call the park office at (919) 557-2496.
