Bass Lake Park is the Place to Be July 15
Free Concert, Fishing until 9:30 p.m. and Evening Paddle Scheduled

The evening of Friday, July 15, Bass Lake Park is the place to be for outdoor activities. Evening events include a free concert, fishing until 9:30 p.m. and an organized evening paddle.

Concert: The free concert geared toward younger children begins at 7:30 p.m. and will be held on the deck overlooking the lake. Singer and storyteller Trish Miller will bring a guitar and entertain guests with engaging and interactive songs. Parents are welcome to bring lawn chairs. The park concession stand will be open, selling drinks and snacks. In the case of rain, the concert will be moved into the conference room.

Fishing: On any other Friday summer evening, the park closes at dusk. But, on July 15, visitors are welcome to stay and fish until 9:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to try out their evening fishing tactics and try to determine for themselves whether the rumor that bigger fish are hungrier after dark is true! Park visitors can bring their own rod and reel, or children can borrow a park rod and reel for free. Bait will be available for $3 at the park concession stand. Inclement weather may cancel the fishing; if rain threatens, call the park office in the afternoon to ensure that late-night fishing still will be available.

Paddling: While paddling across Bass Lake when the sun is high in the sky is an excellent way to take in the beauty of the park, a paddle on the lake after sunset reveals a different perspective of the park's splendor. The approximately hour-long paddle begins at 8:30 p.m. On the guided paddle, participants will look for and learn about nocturnal lake wildlife. While no paddling experience is necessary to participate, the paddle is for adults and children ages 10 and older, and each child must be accompanied by an adult. Advance registration for the paddle is required, and the cost to participate is $2 per resident.

For more information on any of the July 15 events or to register for the evening paddle, call the park office at (919) 557-2496.

Movie in Womble Park Also to be Held the 15th

If none of the Bass Lake Park events entices you, a free movie at Womble Park also will be shown on July 15. Jungle Book 2 will be shown in the Womble Park band shell at 8:45 p.m. For more information, call the Hunt Center at (919) 557-9600.
