1/27/05 Five Things to Do for Your Heart in Holly Springs With Valentine's Day just around the corner, below are five activities you can do that might make your heart healthier or happier. 1. Join the Fitness Center . With aerobic and muscle-building machines, free weights, balance balls and more – and with a membership fee of only $10 per month or $75 per year – the Fitness Center at the Hunt Community Center is a fun and affordable place to exercise and improve your health. 2. Volunteer. Volunteer opportunities with the Town of Holly Springs abound. Consider becoming a youth athletic coach with Holly Springs Parks & Recreation; call (919) 557-6293 . Or, join the Bass Lake volunteer group that maintains the park property by sweeping the park for litter and planting natural areas; call (919) 557-2496 . If you enjoy sewing, consider joining Newborns in Need, a group that meets on the second Saturday of each month at the Hunt Center to create clothing for Wake County premature babies; call (919) 552-1773 . 3. Take advantage of the fitness classes and resources at the Hunt Center . If working out on your own in the Fitness Center isn't your thing, consider joining a group fitness class. Holly Springs Parks & Recreation offers a variety of affordable fitness classes, from yoga and Pilates to aerobics. A new fitness class for mothers with babies 2-12 months just began and meets on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. Call (919) 557-9600 for more information on the fitness classes offered at the Hunt Center . 4. Take a hike! A variety of local hiking trails are available for exploration. The Bass Lake Park trail is mulched and travels along the lake shore. A paved walking trail circles the ball fields at Womble Park . And, a network of miles of hiking and mountain biking trails is only a short drive from downtown Holly Springs , along Avent Ferry and New Hill Holleman roads, at Harris Lake County Park . The park also features a Frisbee golf course and fishing pond! For information on the location of these local parks, visit the Town website at www.hollyspringsnc.us, click on the “Maps” link under the “About Holly Springs” button, and download the Holly Springs Vicinity Map. 5. Smile; you're a Holly Springs resident! Having a cheerful attitude has long been known to be good for the heart. As a Holly Springs resident, there's a lot to be happy about with a Town staff and governing body committed to ensuring that the quality of life for the Town remains as one of the primary attractions for both residents and industry.
