Groundbreaking to be Held for Fire Station off Holly Springs Road

A groundbreaking ceremony for a new Holly Springs fire station will be held Tuesday, May 10, at 5:30 p.m. Brief remarks by Holly Springs town officials will be given at the ceremony.

Grading is already underway at the new fire station location, off Holly Springs Road adjacent to the Moravian Church property. The new station will replace the Main St. fire station in downtown Holly Springs. By relocating the station, the distance between it and the town's Avent Ferry Road fire station will increase, providing more even fire protection throughout the town.

According to Assistant Town Manager Charles Simmons, the approximately 12,000-square-foot, $3 million station will offer individual sleeping quarters for firefighters and rescue technicians, as well as training space, and enough bays to house the station's equipment, some which sits outside the current station due to a lack of space.

Little Diversified Architectural Consulting designed the station, and George Raper & Sons is contracted for the construction. The station is expected to be open by spring, 2006. Once the new station is completed, the town is considering selling the current fire station property on Main St., along with the adjacent property that once housed Public Safety, for commercial development.
